Eradicating conflict

The Sustainable Development day at this year's Mining Indaba in Cape Town focused on two issues that are at the heart of what corporate social responsibility is all about: conflict resolution and responsible sourcing of materials. The two sessions were chaired by the International Council on Mining & Metals' deputy president and senior programme director Aidan Davey, who kick-started the discussion by saying that recent research by ICMM has indicated that mining-related community conflicts may be on the increase.
