摘要

WITH growing numbers of South Africans facing exposure to toxins released by rising water levels in abandoned mines, acid mine drainage (AMD) has become an urgent issue for the government, the mining sector and the increasing number of affected communities. AMD is widely perceived as a legacy issue, as it spans South Africa's 120 years of mining, but it is current and future generations that must cope with its effects.
