H1 2009 BIODIESEL IMPORTS UP BY ONE THIRD ON THE YEAR

Biodiesel imports in June 2009 were 98,377 tonnes, down from 132,640 in the prior month and 166,324 one year ago. However, H1 2009 biodiesel imports rose by 33% to 752,776 ton- " nes. This compares with a total of 1.5 mln tonnes in calendar year 2008. The main origin in H1 2009 remains the United States (381,224 tonnes vs. 541,947). However, virtually all biodiesel imports from the United States were in Q1 2009, before the special import duties on SME B-99 were introduced. Other major origins in H1 2009 were Argentina (228,590 tonnes vs. 4,336), Indonesia (63,466 vs. 10,611) and Malaysia (33,851 vs. 32). Imports from Canada jumped to 22,891 tonnes vs. 1,297.
