Local biodiesel producers said that the government's recent proposal on the federal budget would significantly worsen production economics for their product. Under the government's recently announced plans, the full excise tax of AUD0.38 ($1=AUD1.06) per litre of biodiesel sold will apply from July 1, 2015. However, local production will be subject to the phasing of an. effective excise tax which will reach AUD0.19 per litre or 50% of the energy content equivalent rate after five years in 2020, according to the proposal.
