GLOBAL FEEDSTOCK USE FOR BIOFUEL PRODUCTION DECLINES

Given the current discussions about a reform of the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and the often-uttered request to cut the biofuel targets under the US Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), feedstock consumption for biofuels production is a hot topic. The main issue in this context is to what extent biofuels production takes away food for the hungry, although this view generally does not consider the fact that less biofuels use would likely result in a lower grains or oilseeds production.
