The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its October supply and demand estimate reduced its projection for the 2012/13 (Sep/Aug) US corn supply. This was mainly due to a downward revision in 2011/12 ending stocks stemming from higher than expected domestic demand. The 2011/12 estimate for gross corn use for fuel ethanol was left at 5.000 bln bushels. According to the USDA, the average farm price for corn rose to $6.22 per bu (1 bu=25.4 kg) from $5.18 in the prior season.
