Local daily Estadao ,de Sao Paulo reported that plants with a heavy debt load are currently offered for sale. The bulk of these plants has operational problems, as they have no access to new working capital. Centre/South cane industry group Unica estimates that between 30 and 40 mills, around 20% of the state's total, are up for sale or involved in merger agreements or other partnerships. Other mills are for sale in the Centre/West states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Goias.
