USDA PROJECTS INCREASE IN CORN PLANTINGS

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said at its Agricultural Outlook Forum that it expects higher corn plantings and a slight decline for soybeans for the coming Sep/Aug crop cycle. Corn is to be sown on 90.0 mln acres (1 acre =0.405 ha), up 2.0 mln on the year. Soybean plantings are to fall to 82.5 mln acres from 82.7 mln. However, the projected soybean planting area would still be the third-highest on record.
