Four gold companies receive Nevada Excellence in Mine Reclamation awards

Barrick Gold Corp., Miramar Gold Corp., Nevada Gold Mining Inc. and Newmont Mining Corp. received the Nevada Excellence in Mine Reclamation Awards from the Nevada Division of Minerals at the annual Nevada Mining Association Convention, Sept. 4-6, in Lake Tahoe, NV Barrick received the "Leadership in Reclamation" award for their work at the Ruby Hill Mine in Eureka County. The company remediated an abandoned heap leach pad and cleaned up hazardous wastes from previous mine operations in the nearby historic Eureka Mining District. The company also formed a successful partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Nevada Division of Wildlife, and State Historic Preservation Office to ensure conservation of cultural resources and protection of habitat.
