SC ruling rekindles hope for iron ore exporters

After glaring instances of illegal mining of iron ore and other minerals by mining companies including MSPL Ltd, Sesa Goa Ltd and SB Minerals came to light, the Karnataka government banned the export of the mineral from 10 minor ports and stopped issuing permits for its internal transportation, in a bid to curb rampant illegal mining, especially from the Bellary-Hospet region of the state from July last year. Some of these companies said though they had not mined the ore illegally, they were losing crores of rupees because of the ban.
