The Indian steel sector is going through an important and critical phase of huge capacity addition (estimated 62 million tonne in the 12"' Five Year Plan). There will be newer challenges popping up from the proposed capacity additions for the steel sector in the form of arranging financing of mega size at affordable cost (approximately $ 50 billion), securing raw materials linkages & supply, specifically coking coal, upgrading logistics infrastructure for incoming supplies and raw materials and outgoing manufactured products, finding markets for the upcoming capacity, addressing the sustainability, debate on the environment, strategizing and arranging for talent pool, assimilating the presence of bigdata and utilizing them to provide insightful solutions as per the reports presented by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Private Ltd. at the forum organised by India Chamber of Commerce in Delhi.
