Ultra mega steel projects in the offing

During the last five years or so the investment in the steel sector was a paltry 13,000 Rupees crore which has largely been in brown field steel projects or expansion in existing units. Not a single greenfield project was implemented during the period. Considering the fact that the mega steel projects of global steel giant ArcelorMittal and Posco are being throttled by bureaucracy and agitation from the local populace for the past 4 to 5 years, the government is now considering an alternative mechanism to spur investments in the sector.
