The government has notified anew policy of grantingenvironmental clearance (EC)for minor minerals to combatillegal sand mining.The power of grantingenvironmental clearances forleases up to five hectares havebeen delegated to districtcommittees for the first time,among other steps, includingthe monitoring of mined-outmaterial through informationtechnology-enabled services.
