Mining firms wary of short lease of non-captive mines

Mining companies welcomed therecent decision to extend newmining leases to 50 years, butexpressed concern over noncaptivemines whose leases are dueto expire in 2020. "With less thanfive years to go, many of the leasesfor the non-captive mines have noprovision for their renewal andthey have to be auctioned afresh,"said H Noor Ahmed, President ofthe Federation of Indian MineralIndustries (FIMI).
