Developing a national strategy for chemotherapy administration for oncology nurses in Canada.

A national strategy for chemotherapy administration for oncology nurses, consisting of standards, competencies, and education resources, was selected as a key knowledge product to be developed related to CANO/ACIO's knowledge exchange strategic direction. This product was identified by the membership as a top priority and an area of greatest need through surveys (CANO/ACIO, 2006), think tank (Truant & Penton, 2008) and round table (CANO/ACIO, 2008) meetings. In addition, a review of questions posed by oncology nurse educators from across Canada on an e-mail-based listserve found that the majority of queries related to chemotherapy administration or support of patients receiving chemotherapy.
