Future bright for Commodity Futures

The future is very bright for the growth of commodity futures trading in India. The policy of economic liberalisation and trade reforms pursued by the government and the acceptance by the authorities of the role of futures trading in commodities has already resulted in the emergence of three multi-commodity exchanges in the country along with revival of many regional exchanges dealing in single or more commodities. The initial response may not be that encouraging when compared with the activity in well established commodity exchanges overseas or for that matter on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE). The initial turnover on commodity exchanges, except for few commodities, may not be as per the expectations of the participants.
