The recent ruling by the World Trade JL Organisation (WTO) to allow India and other countries to retaliate against the United States for slapping duties on imports will come as a shot in the arm to Indian steel companies. Not only is this likely to lead to the lifting of the five year old anti-dumping duty on export of hot rolled steel coils from India, but also result in offsetting the recent rise in steel availability in the domestic markets. The Indian government should hasten and take advantage of the above ruling by the WTO, as it is already clear that United States will lose no time in denouncing this. Given the United States' command at the WTO and its ability to change rulings, it would be good if the government also got in touch with the governments of other countries such as Brazil, Canada, Chile, Japan, Korea and Mexico.
