Orissa looks for new bauxite mine for Vedanta

After scrapping of the bauxite mining project of Vedanta Resources in the Niyamgiri hills of Orissa following the ministry of Environment and Forests rejecting the forest clearance for the company's alumina refinery at Lanjigarh, making the mine inoperable, the state government has begun scouting for alternative bauxite reserves for the refinery. The government is making all out efforts to provide bauxite linkage to Vedanta Aluminium Ltd. (VAL). 'The state government is exploring various possibilities to provide bauxite from alternative sources. We are examining the company's applications for other mines,' said Orissa's industry, steel and mines minister Mr Mohanty.
