Zinc prices dive to 5-month low as strike at Grupco ends

Forced by the price decline on the London Metal Exchange (LME) during the week, the domestic zinc producers also slashed the prices of zinc. On Jan 22, LME zinc three months contract hit 2,358 dollars per tonne, lowest in five and a half weeks, before edging higher to 2,375 dollars. The fall in the case of zinc was attributed to the end of 10-week old strike at Grupo Mexico's zinc mine in Zacatecas. The company has revised its plans to shut the mine, as it reached an agreement with the striking workers.
