Base metals gain, gold range-bound

All the base metals recorded impressive gains on Friday (June 5) at the London Metal Exchange (LME) following the announcement of the US employment data which bolstered hopes that the worst of the recession will be over soon. At the same time the strengthening of the US dollar against the leading currencies for the first time in three months reduced the appetite for precious metals. Gold prices edged up on Friday to 977.75 dollars per ounce as compared with previous day close at 967.25 dollars per ounce at LME. Gold prices firmed 5.5 dollars per ounce while silver prices remained range- bound at 15.65 dollars per ounce as compared with previous week closed at 15.52 dollars per ounce.
