IFAPA urges govt to up import duty on ferroalloys The Indian Ferroalloys Producers Association

(IFAPA) has recently requested the government to raise the duty on imports of ferroalloys from five per cent currently to 10 per cent. However ferronickel, which is not produced in the country, has been excluded. According'to a survey of IFAPA, Indian import of ferroalloys has been growing since the beginning of 2009. The main ferroalloys imported into India are ferrosilicon, ferromanganese and some of ferrochrome. Brazil, South Africa, and China are the chief sources of imports. IFAPA has also requested to increase the duties on exports of Indian chrome ores and to revise these export duties.
