An engineering marvel of steel structure - another jewel

With the inauguration of the Bandra-Worli sea link,(BSWL), an engineering landmark and eagerly awaited bridge linking the suburb with south Mumbai, the city has realized a dream, adding yet another jewel in its crown.The city's latest landmark is built using heavy duty steel to protect the bridge in high-corrosion prone area. Interestingly enough, most of the special steel used in the project was sourced from domestic steel companies, in what perhaps also marks the coming of age of Indian steel. The link, likely to be named after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, was inaugurated by Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi. bringing the city new found joy and something to cheer about given the general economic slowdown and depressed outlook. The 5.6 km long bridge entailing capital expenditure of over 1,600 crore Rupees has eased traffic snarls on the Mahim Causeway which was the only link between Bandra and south Mumbai.
