Coal India, to list soon, to increase global presence via tie-ups

Coal India Ltd (CIL)is conferred 'Navratna' status. It is empowered now with more financial and administrative autonomy. Navratna status, however, binds CIL to get listed in 3 years. Sending a clear signal that the Government wants 'Strong PSUs to be publicly traded cost, CIL has to get listed within a stipulated period of three years, beyond which it becomes answerable; To raise capital and to get better acceptability, fundamentally strong public sector undertakings are to be publicly traded companies, according to government norms. Sources pointed out that this is not disinvestment because the Government will not sell any stake, but the company would issue fresh shares through an initial public offering.
