Stainless steels are categories under five families available. Austenitic (72%) and ferritic (24%) are the widest variety used globally in terms of volume. The other three include: Martensitic (2%), Precipitation hardening type (1%) and duplex (0.6%). Austenitic stainless steel can be further divided into two types viz: 300-series and 200-series. A majority of stainless steel used around the world is of the 300-series type, however 200-series use has increased significantly over the last couple of years during which nickel prices have been high.
