Steel Products Quality Control Order 2007 issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs on the recommendations of the Ministry of Steel has opened a hornest's nest. Concern and opposition frm many organizations like Iron Steel Scrap & Shipbreakers Association an Cold Rolled Steel Manufacturers Association of India (CORSMA)have prompted the Ministry of Steel to discuss the pros and cons of the order and it's impact on the industry. The order basically stipulates mandatory registration with BIS, prohibition of manufacture, store, sale and distribution of any steel product, which do not conform to the specified standards or bear the standard mark of BIS .Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2007 stipulates standards for 17 products in steel and are made mandatory from May 2008.
