Protective coating is one of the most common methods of corrosion protection of metals that forms a barrier between the metal surface and the environment. For instance in case of steel, it corrodes as soon as it is exposed to air and moisture. The best way to protect steel is to cover it by a coating which cuts the approach of corrosive environment. A large number of coating solutions are available today. The simplest and the most common method to protect steel is to coat it with zinc, a process called galvanization. More than 30% of steel products, available in the market are galvanized. Another instant method to protect steel is to coat the steel as soon it is produced. A large number of steel coils formed are coated online with various colours, using a process called coil coating. Today many steel companies have online coating plants. Coated steel coils are available in various shapes and sizes and are used for varieties of applications like roofing, boundary walls, partitions, etc with very high coating durability. Coatings are also essential for automotive applications as the quality of a car depends upon the gloss and colour fastness of the paint used. In the same way, hundreds of different coating formulations exist to protect several industrial functional applications.
