CONTRABAND TRADE BRINGS VIETNAMESE SUGAR INDUSTRY INTO DISARRAY

The sugar industry in Vietnam currently is in a chaotic state. Inaccurate production estimates and its porous borders have left all stakeholders at a loss about how much sugar is available in the country and how much sugar needs to be imported, if any. The result is highly fluctuating prices, ad hoc policy announcements and deteriorating economic prospects for the industry. This could lead to disappointment next season after this year's record crop.
