CRUNCH TIME FOR SUGAR AND ETHANOL ISO SEMINAR 2009

The chairman of the 18th ISO seminar, Dr Plinio Nastari, opening the proceedings remarked that crunch time was a very appropriate title as sugar was not among the main beneficiaries of current low interest rates. The first speaker was Jonathan Kingsman, managing director of Kingsman SA in Switzerland, on the subject of first lessons from the crunch. Things were very bleak at the end of 2008, he said. Dollar strength was a threat to all commodity prices while Brazilian real weakness was a threat to sugar prices.
