There seems to be general agreement that Brazil will reap a record crop in 2016/17 (Apr/Mar). While some are expecting the industry in the Centre/South to crush between 640 and 650 mln tonnes of cane others are more conservative putting the final number at between 620 and 630 mln.True, there will be a huge volume of cane for the mills to crush in the current cycle. Not only will the amount of new crop cane be ample following rather wet weather conditions during most of 2015. In addition there is a record amount of stand-over cane from last year which is estimated at 30-40 mln tonnes.
