Key factors for effective mechanization of sugar cane harvesting

Various issues that need to be addressed in order to introduce successfully mechanical harvesting of sugar cane and maximize its efficiency are described and discussed, with a particular reference to a case study from Australia.The sugar cane industryfaces the challenge of meeting a growing market demand for its crop, for sugar production, bioenergy and biobased products. At the same time, the continued migration of rural population towards urban areas is leading to a shortage of manual labor.
