Annual Central Economic Working Conference

The Chinese government's annual Central Economic Working Conference was held from 8-10 December in Beijing. President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao addressed the meeting, which is held annually to outline economic strategy for the following year. The conference participants agreed that 2008 had been an extraordinary year for China. The country has experienced major challenges, including severe snowstorms at the beginning of the year, the 12 May earthquake and now the current international financial crisis.
