Global sugar prices have come under significant pressure after peaking at a four-year high of 23.90 cents/lb in early October as the long-awaited liquidation of a record speculative net long position has taken the market in its grip. Raw sugar pricesfell as low as a six-month trough of 17.96 cents/lb at the time of writing, while whites were down at $485.30 a tonne after peaking at $612 in late September.
