While many high-end aggregate recyclers accuse procurement officers in local authorities of being slow to shift from virgin materials, a new sustainability report from the Sustainable Procurement Task Force may help boost sales. The Procuring the future report echoes the concerns of recyclers by arguing government is still failing in terms of sustainable procurement and offers a range of recommendations to help improve matters. Many public sector procurers lack clear direction from the top of their organisations on the priority to be given to delivering sustainable development objectives through procurement, states the report, even though "numerous" other reports have outlined these failings.
