Raw sugar futures in New York ended lower as the market continued its recent decline. Prices fell to a four-week low as a weaker Brazilian currency encouraged exporters to sell while the amount of cane crushed in Brazil's key Centre/South region in the second half of June decreased due to rain delays but still was not able to give the market a boost. The most-active October contract shed 59 points to settle at 16.10 cents/lb, with second-month March ending down 66 points at 16.90 cents/lb. White sugar futures in London also ended in the red as the nearby August contract fell $21.00 to $478.80 a tonne, with the most-active October contract falling $19.30 to $461.90 a tonne. As a result, the nominal Oct/Oct white sugar premium dropped to $106.96 a tonne from $113.25 on July 1.
