China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), responsible for managing China's state-owned enterprises, has been promoting the consolidation of state-owned steelmakers for some years. The long-term plan is to reduce the number of steelmakers in China to three or four major producers and around six medium-sized producers.
