To mark the completion of a 16 million pounds project to transform the operations and appearance of their Swinden Quarry in the North Yorkshire Dales, Tarmac arranged an open day hosted by Tony Trahar, the chief executive of Tarmac parent Anglo American. Quarrying for limestone aggregate has been taking place at the quarry near Cracoe in the Yorkshire Dales for more than 100 years. And it has to be admitted that it has been an eyesore for most of that time.
