Mining contractor Murray 8c Roberts Cementation has recendy completed designing Ivanplats' mechanised, high-tonnage Platreef No. 2 shaft headframe. The Platreef project is close to the town of Mokopane in the Limpopo Province. Ivanplats is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Robert Friedland's Canadian company Ivanhoe Mines. According to Theo Genis, Murray and Roberts Cementation study manager, design of the headframe started in 2014. Platreef is expected to produce 433 000 platinum group metals (PGM) ounces per annum, and will ultimately be a 12 million tonne per annum (mtpa) operation.
