With 'energy' currently being a global hot topic, coal seems to be one of the commodities of the moment. In South Africa, there has been a rush to the Mpumalanga coal fields, with new players joining the race, to supply Eskom with urgently-needed coal for its existing and planned power stations. Canadian-listed junior, Homeland Energy has kept a relatively low profile in South Africa until recently, although the majority of its assets are located here. Recently, Mining Mirror had the opportunity to visit the company's Kendal operations, some 2,5 km northeast of Eskom's Kendal power station, southwest to the town of Ogies in the Mpumalanga province.
