Global coffee futures posted losses in the period under review as overall market sentiment for commodities remained bearish. The Reuters commodity index fell to the lowest level in more than 13 years with additional pressure for coffee stemming from the Brazilian real's drop to a 2-1/2-month low against the dollar. Benchmark March arabica futures in New York gave up 7.05 cents to end at 119.00 cents/lb, while the May contract fell 6.85 cents to 121.30 cents/lb. A stronger real had previously elevated the March contract to a seven-week high in the first week of December.
