World arabica coffee prices have posted further losses in the period under review, following the persisting downward trend. The market fell to the lowest in four years on June 20 as ample supplies and the expectation of even more beans entering the market once the record "off-year" harvest in Brazil gathers pace. However, short-covering and bargain buying lifted values from this low at the end of the month, with the market posting its steepest daily gain since late May on June 27. The spot July contract eventually gave up 2.25 cent, or 1.8%, between mid- and late June to end at 120.00 cents/lb, while benchmark September futures closed at 120.40 cents/lb, 3.40 cents lower than at the beginning of the period under review.
