Imerys battle continues as unions claim closure effecting staff mental health

Around 40 workers at Imerys are suffering mental health problems, with one employee reportedly being sectioned, following the announcement by the company that it is to shed just over 600 jobs by Q3 next year. Fears over high mortgage payments and a lack of employment opportunities in Cornwall are hitting around 5 percent of the workforce set for redundancy very hard, claim union officials. Transport and General Workers' Union (T&G) national secretary Jennie Formby told MQR that in her 20 years of working for unions she had never come across such a demoralised workforce.
