摘要

The first scientific description of granulite is 250 years old. Its author, Johann Heinrich Gottlob von Justi (1717-1771), was an interesting personality, combining an economist, natural scientist and adventurer. He worked for the Austrian Kanzler Graf Friedrich Wilhelm Haugwitz, who owned the Namest' chateau in western Moravia (now Czech Republic) and was interested in the nature and the economical potential of a strange banded whitish, speckled rock that cropped out at his property. Thus the granulite became for decades, thanks to Justi's work (von Justi, 1754, 1757), a 'Namiester Stein', and since then petrologists all around the world have studied this fascinating rock (Fig. 1) and tried to understand the processes that contributed to its formation in the deep parts of the Earth's crust. In October 2004 this undoubtedly important milestone of the early history of metamorphic geology was commemorated during the International Workshop on Petrogenesis of Granulites and Related Rocks that was convened at the renaissance chateau in Namest'. This architectonic gem provided a stunning backdrop to the three-day meeting. The event was attended by thirty-eight scientists from nine countries, who presented nineteen lectures and several posters. The post-conference excursion showed the most interesting rock types in the eastern Moldanubian Unit, with emphasis on the Namest' granulite massif, including the felsic granulites of the Justi's type locality in Lamberk, Mohelno garnet peridotite body, K-rich magmatites ('durbachites') of the Treble Massif and alkali feldspar syenites near Naloucany.
