Uganda's coffee sector is on the path of recovery as the country's monthly export figures have shown strong increases in recent months. The latest indication of this was seen in January, when the country exported 334,393 60-kg bags, up from 310,149 bags one year earlier. This brought total exports in the first four months of 2015/16 (Oct/Sep) to 1,148,941 bags, up 16.7% from 984,342 in the same period last year. Robusta exports were up 9.7% at 825,846 bags from 753,026 while arabica shipments rose by even 39.7% to 323,095 bags from 231,316. On the other hand, the value of coffee exports decreased by 10% for robusta and 16% for arabica, for a total reduction of 12% in Oct/Jan to $113.6 mln.
