Royal Dutch Shell planned to spend US $6 billion on its oil shale operations across the globe in 2012, and only about half of that capex will go into its North American operations. The company planned to invest approximately $200 million over five years in December 2011 when it signed a partnership agreement with Medanito SA and Gas y Petroleo de Neuquen, the Neuqen province oil company, to explore for oil shale and conventional resources on Medanito's land in Argentina's prolific Neuquen Basin. The agreement covers the Aguila Mora and Sierras Blancas blocks. Shell will operate the properties with a 65% working interest.
