摘要

One of the most anticipated announcements at any birth is that of the sex of the new arrival. Where genital ambiguity results in uncertainty of the sex at birth, this is very traumatic for the parents and their family and they not only need support, but they also need clarification ofthe genetic sex of their child as soon as possible (Parker 1998). This article reviews current work in this area with regard to its description and the need to raise awareness of how health, care professionals can offer parents appropriate support.
