Less than seven years from its original discovery, and four years on from winning the Mines and Money 2008 Outstanding Exploration Award for Donner Metals, the Bracemac-McLeod zinc-copper project is on time (and budget) to start commercial production in early 2013. The project is co-owned by Donner Metals (35%) and Xstrata Zinc Canada (65%); the latter will also operate the mine. Timely production start-up will ensure continuity of mining operations in the camp, as the neighbouring Perseverance mine (wholly owned by Xstrata) is due to close within the next six months. Although Xstrata will operate the mine, Donner Metals provides technical input and is an integral part of the management team.
