Reserves of low-volatile anthracite are abundant enough for utility power generation and are widely spread all over the world, Therfore, there has recently been an increasing need to effectively and efficiently use this resource especially as a fuel for boilers. To meel this need, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) has developed an advanced type anthracite-fired boiler for low volatile anthracite firing. This boiler is equipped with an inner-dense outer-lean vortex firing system fitted with ultra-dense burners each of which consists of a composite of ultra-dense phase fuel nozzle and lean phase fuel nozzle. Because of the enhanced ignition and combustion performance of the combustion system, low volatile anthracite can be burnt exclusively and reliably over a wider load range without supporting fuel than conventional W-shape vertical firing boilers.
