Norilsk Nickel of Russia, the world's largest producer of nickel and palladium and a major copper producer, will keep output this year at about the same levels as in 2001. Last year Norilsk produced abut 232,000 t of nickel and 486,000 t of copper (MJ, June 21, p.465), but output of platinum group metals was not disclosed. Sales of its products are also to be kept at 2001 levels, according to Maxim Finsky, Norilsk's deputy chairman, but it will increase sales to end-users, with a corresponding decrease in sales to traders.
