Marine aggregates/Bristol Channel dredging

The conclusions of a research study comparing the impact of dredging in the Bristol Channel and alternative options for the supply of sand and gravel for construction in South Wales were announced in May. The research, conducted for the Welsh Assembly by the Symonds Group Ltd, was commissioned in 2001 to assist in the completion of the final version of the Assembly's Marine Aggregates Dredging Policy (see Mineral Planning 88 p.22). It examines the impact of other possible supply options to replace dredged sand, including quarrying from land-based sites and the use of recycled material such as china clay waste.
