Major aggregates proposals

Lincolnshire. Four proposals for sand and gravel extraction have been made; all four applications are subject to Environmental Impact Assessment, and in May the EIA process had only been completed on the two earliest applications at Eagle Hall and Tonge's Farm. Accordingly these two were determined in May and are reported in this issue. The four proposals are:Aggregate Industries (UK) Ltd at Eagle Hall. Reserves 6.7Mt (5.2 years on the landbank).RMC Aggregates (Eastern) Ltd at Tonge's Farm, Norton Disney. Reserves 2.46 Mt (1.9 years on the landbank).C & G Concrete Ltd at Norton Bottoms Quarry. Reserves 2.0 Mt (1.5 years on the landbank).Lafarge Aggregates Ltd at Whisby Quarry. Reserves 3.3 Mt (2.6 years on the landbank).In May, prior to refusing proposals to extract sand and gravel at Eagle Hall, and permitting proposals as an extension to Norton Disney Quarry, Lincolnshire CC considered an overview of the Lincoln/Trent Valley area in terms of sand and gravel production levels, the current landbank of permitted reserves, and guidance on landbanks. The Lincoln/Trent Valley Production Zone is the largest of the three production zones in the County and, during 1991-2000, has produced an average of 1.3 Mtpa of sand and gravel, or 41 percent of the total County production. The current landbank of permitted reserves within this production zone is 5.9 Mt which represents 4.6 years supply, a shortfall from the 7 year landbank recommended in MPG6.
